Carnage’s Moment

Carnage had stolen Khonsu’s staff. He had waited patiently for this juncture: an all-out war between the Earth’s mightiest heroes and their deadliest enemies. As the Avengers and X-Men fought against Stryfe and his villainous crew, Carnage lurked in the shadows, waiting.

He needed the Scarlet Witch.

With the din of battle masking his actions and the staff of Khonsu pulsing with stolen magic, Carnage struck. It only took a split second. One moment of chaos. One moment of vulnerability.

Scarlet Witch gasped as an unseen force coiled around her mind. Her red magic flickered, then blazed violently as it turned a deep, sickly crimson-black. In an instant, the world belonged to Carnage. Every sentient being—every hero, every villain, every innocent soul—bowed before him.

Except three.

In the moment Carnage struck, Spider-Man, Nightcrawler, and Cable had teleported behind enemy lines, hoping to turn the tide of battle. But in that crucial moment—when reality itself warped around them—they were out of sync with time and space. By sheer luck—or perhaps fate—they were spared.

When the trio re-emerged, the battlefield was silent. A red haze blanketed the world, and everywhere they looked, twisted monstrosities wearing the faces of their former allies roamed the streets.

“Are we too late?” Spider-Man whispered.

Cable tightened his grip on his weapon. “No,” he said grimly. “We still have a chance.”

But did they?

Khonsu’s staff disrupted time itself, preventing Cable from using his time-sliding technology to go back before Carnage’s takeover.

“God protected us for a reason, meine Freunde,” Nightcrawler said, his voice firm. “We can—nein, we must—do this.”

The three survivors needed a way to undo this nightmare. But to stand against a reality-warping Carnage, they needed an item of incredible magical power—and someone who knew how to wield it.

Unfortunately, they had no idea where to begin.

Spider-Man paced.“We need the best archaeologist on the planet to find an ancient, buried magic wand to defeat the most horrific psychopath in the universe.”

Cable grunted. “Great. Too bad we don’t know one.”

“We did have some of the most brilliant researchers studying such supernatural things until this nightmare began,” mused Nightcrawler. “Now, there is only Carnage.”

Spider-Man asked, “If you two combine your time-slide technology and teleportation powers, can we safely travel to another dimension and another time to find who we need?”

Both nodded.

“Then, that’s our answer,” Spider-Man’s eyes widened. He turned to his allies. “We use your tech, Cable, to find the perfect ally. Then, we jump back in time, in that dimension, and seek their help.

A pause. Then—

“It’s worth a shot,” Cable confirmed.

Spider-Man grinned. “Then let’s go get a brave, brilliant, archaeologist, who understands magic, advanced civilizations, and isn’t afraid to take a leap into the unknown with three total strangers who look like they leaped right out of a comic book.”

Recruiting Indiana Jones

Indiana Jones had barely returned from his Last Crusade with his father when his quiet paper-grading session was interrupted by three uniquely dressed individuals appearing in his office right out of nowhere in a purple and pink, sulfur and brimstone-smelling cloud.

To his credit, Dr. Jones didn’t panic. He’d seen enough supernatural events to know when something big was happening.

After a long explanation and an even longer night of research, Indy traced what they needed.

“I believe this will solve your ‘time-sliding problem,’” he said, pointing at an old parchment. “The Staff of Azahazzar. According to legend, the demon king Azahazzar ruled the Netherrealm until his staff was shattered. The hourglass atop it is said to bend time itself. If wielded properly, we should be able to break through the magical barrier holding your world hostage and land at the precise moment before your ‘Scarlet friend’ was
 what did you say? ‘Voodooed’?”

Spider-Man nodded. “Yep, that’s the scientific term.”

With no time to waste, they set out to find the staff.

The Staff of Azahazzar

Their search led them to an ancient, hidden temple deep within an uncharted jungle. Battling deadly traps, collapsing ruins, and vicious guardians, they finally uncovered the staff.

Or rather—three separate pieces of it.

Indiana examined an inscription. “Roughly translated
‘To keep the demon king separated from our world, his staff must remain separated.’”

Spider-Man groaned. “Oh great. So, assembling this thing might unleash a demon?”

“We don’t have a choice,” Cable said, starting to piece it together. “We’re out of options, and out of time.”

The moment the staff was restored, it glowed an unnatural green and a low, guttural growl echoed through the chamber.

Something stirred.

But there was no time to worry about that now.

“Time to go!” shouted Cable.

The Final Battle

With the staff in hand, they leaped across the Multiverse back to Earth-616, arriving at the exact moment before Carnage seized control of Scarlet Witch.

The instant the mutant’s bamf-cloud materialized, Carnage’s senses flared. He snarled, sensing a disruption in his pursuit of a new world order - his world order. Spider-Man thwipped webs in rapid, fierce succession at Carnage to break his concentration just enough. Cable supported Indiana Jones with his full telepathic and telekinetic might while still blasting away at the evil symbiote. Nightcrawler could be heard praying aloud, “I can do all things
” as he leaped towards Khonsu’s staff with all his fingers and toes spread wide.

Indy thrust the staff of Azahazzar forward, its hourglass glowing with golden energy.

Time around Scarlet Witch flickered and rewound—just enough for her to resist Carnage’s influence.

Her eyes blazed red. The Scarlet Witch had returned.

Carnage barely had time to react before the Scarlet Witch unleashed her full fury. The raw power of chaos magic surged, severing Carnage’s grip on the magical relic. He screamed as the stolen magic was torn from him, the staff of Khonsu ripped from his grasp by the dark blue X-man.

And just like that—the nightmare was undone.

The fierce battle between heroes and villains on the streets below resumed, but the tide had turned. Without Carnage’s influence, the villains either retreated or were swiftly, and decisively defeated.

Epilogue

With their mission complete, the trio returned Indiana Jones to his time on his Earth.

Indy placed the Staff of Azahazzar into a museum, its power now locked away.

“Where it belongs,” he thought. But as he walked away, a microscopic crack formed in the hourglass. Just along the edge. That night, the unnatural green glow began to flicker from inside the hourglass once more. The night watch could have swore he heard something while making his rounds - it sounded like
like laughter.

The End?
