Having the mutant gene run through your veins isn’t easy on the wallet, but somehow l was fortunate enough to bag the Retro Beast while still new. My bank account thanks me. In fact, l can blame blue boy here for my Legends revival. So enthralled by this figure, l just couldn’t resist. Thus my temporary hiatus from Legends ended and l haven’t looked back since. Hank is, quite possibly, the best X-centric figure in the entire mutant catalogue. That’s no small (hairy) feat when you consider X-Men characters multiplied like rabbits. Throw a rock and you’ll hit one of the children of the atom. Beast is both satisfyingly bulky, but astonishingly agile. In fact, that’s been the fault of many a Beast figures. When your dominant power is super agility, you best have the articulation to back that up. And he does. Oh, he does. From upside down ape to handstand Hank, he does it all with spades. He'll be doing summersaults on his way to your heart the moment you free him from his plastic prison. Tossing in his science equipment and lab coat was chemistry 101, much appreciated. Someday this century l hope the blue buddy gets reissued for the many who seem to have missed out because this one… he’s a real beast. One of those perfect rarities, among perhaps only a dozen figures l deem flawless, that embodies what's so much fun about this (expensive) hobby.
