I think a smart thought on Hasbro's part to put out a Maximum Hulk as one of the inaugurals as it could very well be the end-all for many collections. I'm good on Hulk figures personally but this would have been a must have had that not been the case. Time will tell, of course.

I know this figure has been divisive in the community. I understand criticisms with regards to aesthetic. They tried giving us three different heads and I appreciate that. But some would have preferred a specific style.

I think the Maximum series has had a perception problem. A lot of people had their expectations set by Maximum Spider-man. And I can't fault them. I feel like just because Spidey had all new tooling/articulation, etc? I think people expected that of the others in the line. And I feel that stems from miscommunication on the part of the Legends team.

For my part personally? I have viewed Maximum as Hasbro's answer or response to import figures. And in that respect I feel Maximum does fit that. This Hulk figure in particular was criticized for reuse. Again I can't say I blame Hulk fans who don't tend to get new Hulk figures often compared to Spidey, etc. However, I also feel like the reuse was somewhat justified in terms of the legs. It was probably a measure to keep the cost down and within that $50-$60 price range. We are talking about a hunk of plastic. Bigger in size, more weight to ship, etc. In terms of accessories i feel what he comes with is fine though I feel they could have thrown in the ripped shirt overlay from the 80th Hulk.

He was advertised on the back of being able to Thunderclap. And yes the figure can do that...but those effects can be tedious. However, you can also use those swoosh effects with the new Gamerverse Juggernaut. The Smash/clap effect as well probably. The thunderclap is made possible by that soft rubber overlay. I appreciate they tried something new. However, I think after having Juggernaut? They could have just done a butterfly and people would have been fine with the cuts into the chest. And a lot of the concerns folks had (Myself included) are kind of coming to pass. That rubber overlay is fragile. Shartimus had his tear after having left it posed in a certain pose for an extended period of time. If you have to be afraid of posing your figure due to potential damage? Well that's kind of counter to the idea of an 'action' figure? If you have to just static pose them on a shelf to avoid damage it kind of takes away some of the fun of posing them.

I want everyone here to imagine being offended....by action figure reviews...on an action figure site. Just imagine that for a minute. What a loser...

Happy with my 80th Anniversary version and the Wolvie that came with it. My collection tendencies have whittled down extensively and I just don't feel the need for another Hulk, currently. But for fellow collectors, I think this is a great option especially if one didn't have a Hulk on hand already.

In fact, now I'm just going to post more JUST to annoy you. Congratulations.

In a world where you've got countless characters, Hulk is such a limited scope compared to what Maximum can really deliver. He was an inevitability; he's too big a name to not eventually do in Maximum, but I stand by him being misplaced so early. He doesn't shoot anything. He doesn't have any iconic weapons. He doesn't have metamorphic abilities. He doesn't fly. He's limited compared to what Maximum can actually produce. Dr. Strange, Thor, Punisher, Mr. Fantastic, Storm, Daredevil, Moon Knight, Wolverine, Iceman, Magneto, Venom, Jean Grey, Sandman, Human Torch, Invisible Woman, Nightcrawler, Cyclops, Captain America, Iron Man, Scarlet Witch, Ant-Man, all of these and more offer more to what Maximum was pitched to be than a big green guy that picks up heavy things and breaks or throws them. And being that Hulk can't come with a car or tank, ah...think bigger, Maximum. Think outside the box. This was phoned in the moment I saw it's a glorified 80th Hulk pitched as "new." Lazy, overpriced, and limited.

This is a real mixed bag.

I broke it down to a science. It’s not a bad figure; it’s a bad Maximum. By all rights, he’s a solid enough figure… because the 80th and 20th Anniversary Hulks are great figures. He’s a bad Maximum figure because he’s 75% the 80th and 20th Anniversary Hulk figures. His greatest strength is his greatest weakness. Perhaps presumptive, but l always assumed in the pitch that Maximum…as in definitive versions of core characters in their most iconic looks with deluxe accessories…meant all new. Apparently that assumption was wrong.

We’re two deep into the line, toes barely wet, and we’ve already effectively got just a retool with toe articulation, a rubber chest that quite possibly has the same expiration date as your produce (people are already experiencing deterioration), and three heads of questionably cartoonish nature. While yes, the head portraits are based off of specific source material artist renderings, they’re over-the-top exaggerated nonetheless, and that inevitably means polarizing. Polarizing is the opposite of definitive. It doesn’t even benefit from an added bonus head swap with a prior. Oddly, they decided to make this a very unique green, nullifying any chance of popping on a better classic head from prior releases. The colors don’t match. Even what is new…comes with a caveat.

Adding onto this, was Hulk really the best choice for an early addition into the line? Super strong characters don’t especially offer a lot extra. It’s early; why wouldn’t you want to show off what you can really do with, say, Mr. Fantastic and a dozen stretch parts or Iceman and a complete ice slide? That's just a portion of dozens more superior character options. For the premise of this line, Hulk doesn't offer more accessories, swappable parts, and power effects. He's innately limited. Super strong roles are physical; most you’re going to get is something for them to break or throw. And that’s exactly what they did…they just gave Hulk a missile to break and throw. Adding in the clap effect, the only thing Hulk can really offer for a signature move, and it doesn’t even seem engineered properly. By all rights, it feels more like something that was created for another figure, and they just tossed this in because the actual clap is held in place by mere friction. More caveats to the only reasons anyone already owning the 80th or 20th would want to buy this Maximum for. It echoes back to, well, its greatest strengths are its greatest weaknesses.

Toe Articulation—can't hold its own weight.

Rubber Chest—prone to deterioration and cracking over time.

Three New Heads—cartoonish and exaggerated depictions over more traditional and iconic classic looks.

The Hulk Clap Effect—difficult to situate properly and doesn't fit well.

The biggest reasons to buy this...all have warts in some way. Overall, it leaves a lot to be desired for $60. So boiled down, it’s a good enough figure if you don’t have the prior Banner figures. But unless the clap is just that worthwhile to you, if you’ve already got the 80th or 20th…skip it.

I got mine preordered. Soooo expensive, but so is my Grub Hub food delivery, TV apps, and pretty much everything else in life I still manage to buy.
Also on a side note…just checked my TB Morbius and yep…face is still all good (whew!) Maybe it is how it is stored? Kept mine in the closet.

Wow! And I thought the one I mentioned was a real toilet floater. I see what you mean...

@Hindsite Actually no, I mean Morbius from 2003 Toybiz days. It had a rubber face as an action feature. Push the button on his back and he would open his mouth to bite. Kinda. Just google Morbius action figure rubber face. You’ll see what happened to EVERYONEs Morbius figure by now.

I'm assuming you're referencing the Morbius from the Absorbing Man BAF wave because, yeah, it was cited in several reviews as being a quality control nightmare which is why it remains incarcerated in my collection.

I picked this up because I specifically want a Hulk that do a jumping thunderclap in my Avengers (comics) display. He’s the big missing character in my Avengers section and I kept passing on all the previous Hulks. So I rationalize the $60 price tag being ok because I have not spent money on any of the previous 25 Hulk figures that have come out over the years. I hope the rubber chest holds up over time. I have a melted Morbius figure that would like to talk to the QA folks…

As I stated in prior comments this may very well be the definitive Marvel Legends Hulk. I'm happy with my Wolverine two-pack version so this is an easy pass for me. I hope everyone looking to grab it gets it because I'm sure you'll be happy with it. It does look great.
