Short answer
A Build-A-Figure, or BAF, is a big figure split into parts. Every figure in the wave comes with one part, so you need the whole wave to build it. As of November 3, 2026, the Legendsverse checklist lists 104 Marvel Legends Build-A-Figures, from 2005 to 2026.
What a Build-A-Figure is
It's the figure you never see on the pegs. Hasbro splits it into an arm, a leg, a torso, a head (sometimes an extra piece), and packs one part in each box of the wave. Get the whole wave and you can snap the big guy together.
That's how the line gets characters that would never fit a normal box. Giants, monsters, the Hulk-sized crowd. It's also how Hasbro gets you to buy the two figures in the wave you didn't care about.

How to build one
- Find the wave. The BAF's name is on the front of every box in the wave, and the side or back shows which part is inside.
- Match parts to figures. Each BAF in the list below links to its checklist page, which shows every part and the figure it ships with.
- Get the whole wave. Pre-ordering the full wave is the safe bet. Wait too long and the one figure you need sells out.
- Bag the parts. A small zip bag with a label, until the last part shows up. A loose leg disappears fast.
- Go easy on the joints. If a peg won't go in, warm the part with a hair dryer or in warm water for a minute. Not boiling water. It can warp the plastic.
When one piece is missing
Almost everyone ends up one part short at some point. You skipped a figure, Target never restocked, or a leg vanished in a move. A few ways out:
- Buy the single part. Search eBay for the BAF name plus the part, like "Zabu BAF left leg". Plenty of sellers split a wave and sell the figures and parts separately.
- Trade for it. Reddit and Discord groups swap parts all the time, since lots of people buy a wave for one figure.
- Buy that figure loose. A loose figure that still has its part is often cheaper than a sealed one.
- Watch out for copies of popular parts. If the price looks too good, read how to spot fake Marvel Legends before you pay.

Questions
What's the oldest Marvel Legends Build-A-Figure?
In our checklist it's Apocalypse, from 2005. BAFs started in the Toy Biz years, before Hasbro took over in 2007.
Can you buy a Build-A-Figure on its own?
Not from Hasbro. You either buy the wave, or you buy the finished figure or the parts from another collector.
How many figures do I need to finish one?
One per part, which usually means the whole wave. Some waves have a figure with no part, or one with two, so check the BAF's page before you buy.
Does a sealed figure still have its part?
It should. If the box has been opened, ask the seller if the part is still inside. A lot of sellers pull the parts to sell on their own.
